Security Clearance Process

All candidates must be U.S. citizens due to government security clearance requirements.

BPMI requires that each of its employees obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance.  If you receive and accept an offer of employment from BPMI, Human Resources will help you through the security clearance process. First, they finalize your pre-employment background check.  Once your background check is finalized, you’ll complete the online security clearance application also known as the SF-86 Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP) and schedule an appointment for badging at a BPMI location or a USAccess Shared Enrollment Center. The security clearance process is thorough; it can take several months to be granted a clearance.

You may review the SF-86 (QNSP) prior to your interview so you can ask questions about the questionnaire on the day of your interview. Remember, completion of the QNSP is not required until an employment offer is accepted. Additionally, please be advised that, upon acceptance of an offer, drug screening and fingerprinting are conducted as a routine part of the employment process.

On the QNSP, you'll be asked to provide information regarding:
  • previous addresses
  • employment history
  • relatives
  • foreign travel and foreign contacts
  • police record
  • financial record
  • education
  • drug use

Upon accepting an offer of employment, you should begin collecting this information as soon as possible so that once you receive an email from BPMI’s Security Department, you can immediately begin the online clearance application.

BPMI is a drug-free workplace.

Candidates accepting a job offer will be required to pass a pre-placement drug screening and background investigation. As an employee, you will be required to receive and maintain a security clearance from the United States Department of Energy in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive information or matter. U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants. All employees are subject to being randomly selected for drug testing without advance notification.
