Company Culture

BPMI's workforce is a diverse group of talented individuals working toward the common goal of supporting our Navy in their pursuit of national security.

This critical work instills a sense of connection to the Sailors whose lives depend on our dedication, attention to detail, and focus. Our culture is one of patriotism, purpose, and pride in our employees and in the work that we perform.

To foster fellowship in the workplace and create an enjoyable work environment, BPMI sponsors several committees and clubs within our organization, each with their own mission and purpose.

We take pride in the work we perform.

Committees and Clubs

BPMI sponsors an Interest & Events Council (IEC), which organizes events that emphasize the importance of employees and their families. IEC-sponsored events that are favorites of our employees include our annual spring barbecue, the Pittsburgh Pirates tailgate and game, holiday party, ice cream socials, our annual employee appreciation luncheon, and visits from food trucks in the summertime.

BPMI also supports the communities in which we operate. For more than 20 years, BPMI’s Community Affairs Committee has helped to make these communities a better place for everyone, to give our employees opportunities to volunteer, and to foster friendships among colleagues through volunteerism. Through the efforts of the CAC, BPMI supports many organizations, including American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Central Blood Bank, Humane Society, Salvation Army, United Way, Wounded Warrior Project, local food banks, and many more. In the last five years, alone, BPMI employees have donated more than $700,000 to charity! We’re proud of the charitable spirit that is so representative of our workforce.

BPMI's DEIC Change Council consists of approximately 30 employees who want to lead positive change at BPMI, as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The mission of the DEIC Change Council is to work to integrate best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion into organizational programs and practices, and to lead change and monitor progress for DEIC efforts at BPMI to ensure our diverse workforce sets the standard for exceptional service to the US Navy.

The BPMI Green Team is committed to making improvements and sharing information for a greener, cleaner, and healthier BPMI. Their objectives are to reduce our environmental footprint; improve recycling and reduce waste; choose greener, less toxic products for our facilities; provide disposal options for hard-to-recycle items; and change mindsets. Some recent initiatives executed by the Green Team include a K-Cup recycling program and installing water bottle refilling stations around the office.
The employees on the Workplace Environment team (what we call the "WE Team") are interested in creating a workplace environment that facilitates employee engagement, collaboration, and positive energy. The goal of the WE Team, in various ways and roles, is to continue finding ways to make BPMI a place where people want to come to work and stay. Their areas of focus are to advocate for a positive and evolving work environment; to respect each other's needs to balance work and life; to promote a sense of community at BPMI; and to connect the mission of the U.S. Navy with the people at BPMI who enable the fleet to perform its missions. Some WE initiatives include the Dress for Your Day policy that BPMI employees enjoy and recreational games (foosball, cornhole, and more) on our cafeteria grounds that promote fellowship among our workforce as well as the importance of taking a break from daily work responsibilities.
The Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) manages the BPMI Awards and Recognition Program, which aims to recognize employee performance that exemplifies commitment and effort in support of BPMI’s mission, vision, and values.  The ARC is responsible for award program management and award fulfillment.  From instant recognition awards to General Manager Awards, the ARC is involved with ensuring that our employees feel appreciated for the work they do in support of our nation's defense.
To encourage camaraderie, physical fitness, and a little friendly competition, BPMI offers numerous clubs for employees to join. From golf and basketball, to cycling and skiing, there is something for everyone at BPMI.

With a variety of special interest clubs to get involved with, opportunities abound for you to foster new friendships with fellow employees, enjoy your favorite recreational pastimes, and maybe even explore new ones!
